Gooseberries

Hurst’s gooseberries range from very small and tart early varieties to larger, sweeter varieties that ripen in late July. Depending on the variety, gooseberries can be green, yellow or dark red. Gooseberries make wonderful pies, preserves and jellies.

PACKAGING

Hurst’s gooseberries come in clear plastic clamshells (6-oz. and 24-oz., both of which travel 12 to a flat). The clear clamshell design allows for stacking in stores and protects the fragile berries. It also allows customers to see the fruit easily.

DISPLAY & HANDLING

Display Hurst’s gooseberries alongside other berries. Creating a “berry patch” display with Hurst’s gooseberries and other berries can encourage impulse buying. They should be stored and displayed in dry refrigeration. They should not be damp because moisture speeds the rate of decay. Shelf life is approximately three weeks after picking.
