PACKAGING

Hurst’s blueberries are sold in several clamshell sizes and in 5 lb. bulk boxes. During peak season, blueberries are typically sold in 4.4 oz., 6 oz, 1 pint, 2 lb. and 5 lb. packs.

HEALTH

Widely published research suggests that blueberries are one of the richest sources of disease-fighting antioxidants. Antioxidants reduce oxidative stress that can cause damage to cells, leading to cancer, cardiovascular disease and other diseases of aging. Other studies have shown that the pigment in the skin of a blueberry improves balance, coordination and short-term memory. Blueberries are also rich in vitamin C and fiber, and naturally low in fat, cholesterol and sodium.

DISPLAY & HANDLING

Creating a “berry patch” display with Hurst’s blueberries and other berries can encourage impulse buying. For optimal shelf life, Hurst’s blueberries should be stored and displayed in dry refrigeration at 32° to 34°. The berries should not be damp because moisture speeds up the rate of decay. Shelf life for Hurst’s blueberries, once they reach your market, is 7 to 14 days. For best flavor, they should be consumed within one week.
